***CANCELED DUE TO STORMS***Metro Atlanta International Overdose Awareness Day Vigil
*****WE ARE CANCELING THIS YEAR’S EVENT SINCE THE WEATHER FORECAST AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT SHOWS A LOT OF STORMS IN THE AREA.*****
International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. Time to Remember. Time to Act.
Please join us for the local event at Park at Pernoshal Court in Dunwoody, Georgia on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 7:00-8:30 pm. We will have speakers on overdose prevention and harm reduction as well as a candlelight vigil to honor the lives of loved ones lost to overdose.
Speakers will include some of the founders of Georgia Overdose Prevention and the Justice for All Coalition.
If you would like to bring a photo of your loved one, we will have a table to display them.
We will collect donations at the event to go towards a bulk purchase of fentanyl test strips to be distributed by local harm reduction efforts. If you can’t attend the event and would like to donate towards this, you can donate by Venmo to @andygish You have probably heard that there are naloxone shortages and an increase in overdose deaths right now so access to these strips are more important than ever. We will announce the amount of any donations collected beforehand at the event. We will also be collecting bottled water or travel size hygiene products for the Justice for All Coalition’s outreach efforts. Please bring any items to donate to the vigil. Thank you.
Rain or shine. If there is severe weather, we will update closer to event time.
COVID Safety Precautions: This event will be outdoors. Please wear masks and practice social distancing.
There is free parking at Park at Pernoshal Court and the venue is also close to the Marta busline.
