Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History

In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and in recognition of the 1992 Los Angeles Uprisings the Auburn Avenue Research Library’s staff will facilitate a community discussion on the film Gook. Written, directed and starring Justin Chon this black-and-white drama is a powerful exploration of racial tension, family duty, and the American dream shadowed by 1992 Los Angeles Uprisings. The selected films discussed in this series are being considered as addition to the Auburn Avenue Research Library’s film collection and these community discussions will be part of the Library’s collection development process to include public input and feedback. Gook can be viewed by participants at their leisure prior to this discussion via Tubi, Vudu, or Amazon Prime Video and the film’s official site.

Register in advance for this community discussion at and contribute to the ongoing development of AARL’s film collection.
