Please join Central Presbyterian Church and Georgians For Alternatives To The Death Penalty at a candlelight vigil tonight for the murder of Ray Cromartie
The State of Georgia will murder Ray Cromartie tonight. Our state’s Supreme Court will not hear DNA evidence that Ray was not the person who committed the crime he is charged with.
Ray was in his twenties when the crime was committed; he’s a 54 year old man now. What do we gain by killing him? What is more terrifying than having your death scheduled, in advance – twice?
There is no logic behind murdering someone for committing a crime. The mere existence of a chance that we are making a mistake – a mistake that cannot be reversed – tells us that we should not do this.
We will meet on the steps of the Capitol at 6:30, across the street from my church, Central Presbyterian, to ask God to save Ray’s life, and to forgive his executioners, as Jesus Christ asked the Lord to forgive his.
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
