Heal the Land Initiative is an invitation to healing justice practitioners and concerned people in community to tend to trauma that is embedded in places on the planet. We seek to use culturally relevant models and modalities such as community ritual, art installations, celebration, and more to do this grief work.
The Heal the Land Atlanta: Gentrification installment is an initiation into this work locally. We are not seeking to “solve the problem” of gentrification; we are seeking to move and transmute the grief and trauma present as a result of the deep and sordid history of people of African descent losing access to land, home, and community in this country and in this city in particular.
We feel that it is time to broaden our scope of healing justice work, allowing our work to spill out of confining institutional containers and root itself in the soil. We resolve to turn to the land as a first step to identifying a collective healing practice for practitioners in Atlanta.
